FRAG EXCHANGE PROJECT

Since its founding in 2013, Global Art Project (GAP) has fostered a vibrant and ongoing international dialogue among artists through mixed-media collaboration. Comprising over 90 working artists in more than 20 countries, GAP transcends conventional gallery systems by cultivating connections through exhibitions, residencies, and material exchanges. As a collaborative collective, GAP promotes the creative intelligence of its global network, encouraging the spontaneous, the experimental, and the deeply personal across diverse artistic practices and geographies.

At the core of GAP’s collaborative practice lies the "frag"—a fragment of image, material, or thought shared and transformed through collaborative exchange. Torn paper, billboard scraps, and discarded fabrics become building blocks of collective meaning, passed between artists across continents via mail, digital platforms, and in-person gatherings. In relinquishing authorship and reordering intention, artists reimagine their visual universe through this dynamic process of deconstruction and reinvention.

This same spirit of collaboration and material exchange continues in DISLOCATIONS, GAP’s ongoing artist book series. These portable, intimate works—both solo and collaborative—serve as galleries in miniature, inviting viewers into layered, personal narratives. First initiated during a 2014 residency in Venice and expanded through exhibitions in California during the pandemic, the series reflects GAP’s commitment to creative connection across time, space, and circumstance. Each book becomes a site of solitude and solidarity, displacement and discovery—an embodiment of GAP’s vision: art without borders, authorship without limits.
